My love of the Greek language

Published on February 23, 2021February 24, 2021 by lenochkaLeave a comment

As a child I loved learning other languages. But whilst I was brought up bilingual I never actually had a single proper lesson or any kind of instruction in Greek whatsoever.

‘Happy Days’ Finished working on this - a new composition using some of my tile design motifs in a pastel colour palette. A little unusual for me (the colour palette, that is) but that’s what inspired me at the moment. I feel this would be perfect for a child’s room either as wall art, which this can be as it’s painted on paper for framing, or printed on textiles for bedding and accessories and even wallpaper. Fun! I called it ‘A Sunny Disposition’ 🌞 Working on a new composition using some of my tile design motifs in a pastel colour palette. Everything about this post/reel goes against all Instagram recommendations 😄 it’s slow (real time painting), it’s probably too long and I can’t be bothered with hashtags. So… you might not see it at all or you’ll get bored and brush past it or you might fall asleep listening to the music!😆 But this is what it’s really like in my world. Slow, peaceful, deliberate but always colourful. 🦉Short version of my process video for Athena’s Owl -a commissioned artwork for an Airbnb located in the centre of Athens. (See previous post) You can watch the full version on my YouTube channel. 🦉The Owl was a commissioned artwork for an Airbnb located in the centre of Athens. I was thrilled to receive this commission and amazed at the synchronicity of its subject matter as I had recently been sketching and exploring the idea of creating an artwork with the owl! So here’s a thing. I’ve fallen slack in documenting my process and what I’m up to -not that I think you are wondering or particularly interested 😆 but let’s just say you are 😜 and I did hear a particularly poignant remark in @faillikeanartist ‘s latest podcast regarding Instagram whereby, as creatives especially, it’s not so much about creating content as it is documenting our process. For the one person interested. For you. For me. So one day I can look back and see what I was doing. Anyway…. here’s a photo of what’s on my table. (A #workinprogress )You know I love patterns and I have loads I have designed filed away on my computer. Sometimes I get them out and play with new arrangements and colourways or something new appears, but I never actually really do anything with them. I have some on @spoonflower but that’s about it. Bits might appear in my artwork but I don’t generally paint them out in full. The first time I think was in Summer Cocktail. There’s a lot going on here. So I’m playing with a pattern of mine featuring an evil eye motif I’ve used before in designing surface patterns for textile and tiles but as I’m getting more used to the idea of painting on paper and I’m trying out different qualities of paper to see what I like more, I thought I’d paint this out. I’m also using my favorite paints and getting more accustomed to how they work and mix for me and I also wanted to paint larger than what is usual (on paper), this piece being about 71x51 cms. A while back I ordered a couple of prints of my Golden Pelican artwork but I have to say that for the first time ever I was pretty disappointed with the outcome. The colours were duller and darker than the original. Probably a combination of my photo editing (should have made sure that it was brighter) and the paper which absorbed the inks in a particular way. As I was going to anyway, I thought embellishing them would improve on them but I ended up doing so much more embellishing than planned that I thought I might as well have painted them from scratch! Regardless that these were to go to family who had requested them I just couldn’t send them as is. I wanted to get as near as possible to the original both in colour and impact. And so I began painting not one but two golden pelicans on fine art paper. This is something I had actually been meaning to try so I used the experience as an exploration and experiment. And I must say I am thrilled with the result! So now these two are on their way to their new homes and I can’t wait to see them in place! I could almost eat my yummy palette today using @lefrancbourgeoisofficiel Flashe paints which I’m loving! 😆
